ABOUT OUR TEAM
PHIL MULLEN
Phil Mullen became a community musician in 1985. He is now one of the world’s leading community music trainers and has given lectures and workshops on community music in over 27 countries across 6 continents.
He has worked for over thirty-eight years developing music with people who are socially excluded, including homeless people, offenders, and people in areas of conflict.
Phil specializes in working with excluded children and young people at risk.
Publications include co-editing ‘Reaching out – Music education with ‘hard to reach’ children and young people’ and Phil’s own book 'Challenging Voices’ published by Peter Lang.
Phil has an MA in Community Music from York University and a PhD from Winchester University.
LIZ SEGAL
Liz began performing as a singer songwriter in early 1990's, later studying community music workshop skills at Goldsmiths University, London.
Liz works across London and the South East of England delivering a variety of music making and song writing workshops with all ages and abilities.
A key part of her work has been Early Years Music and Movement service provider across East London for Sure Start, Early Years settings and providing staff training. Liz also delivered singing sessions for the Alzheimer's Society and in Care Home settings working people living with Dementia and their families.
Liz has a BA Hons in Commercial Music from University of Westminster and Certificate in Music Workshop Skills from Goldsmiths University.
GARY DAY
Gary Day is one of the leading practitioners in the UK and Ireland working in the field of accessible and inclusive music making and education. His projects have involved working in various different educational settings, including schools, universities, hospitals, museums, and with orchestras and arts organisations, to support access and inclusion in music making.
Gary also spent 2 years as resident musician at Great Ormond St Hospital, London, with GOSH Arts and has delivered music programmes and training sessions for; Museum of London, Live Music Now UK/N.I, Music Generation Ireland, Trinity Laban, Drake Music London/NI, The Amber Trust, London Symphony Orchestra, Sage Gateshead.
Gary specialises in supporting teachers in increasing access and participation to music making and is a ‘Sounds of Intent’ enthusiast!
